About WBIM

“While walking along a beach, an elderly gentleman saw someone in the distance, leaning down, picking something up and throwing it into the ocean.

As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, picking up starfish one by one and tossing each one gently back into the water.

He came closer still and called out, “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”

The young man paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean.”

The old man smiled, and said, “I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?”

To this, the young man replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.”

Upon hearing this, the elderly observer commented, “But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can’t possibly make a difference!”

The young man listened politely. Then he bent down, picked up another starfish, threw it into the back into the ocean past the breaking waves and said, “It made a difference for that one.”

In 2009 the owners of Beech Tree Stables took in their very first rescue, Magic, a Grulla Paint mare.  Magic was the unofficial start to We Believe in Magic, an equine rescue committed to providing a second chance to those that would probably otherwise be sent to auction and slaughter.   Currently, the United States of America is the largest supplier of horsemeat intended for human consumption.  Every year over 100,000 horses are shipped by truck and boat to Mexico, Canada, and Japan to be slaughtered for such purpose.  These horses come from all sorts of backgrounds; some are children’s ponies/horses, lesson horses, race horses, work horses, wild horses and even fancy show horses.  90% of all horses slaughtered are young, healthy, sound horses who deserve a forever family of their own.

We Believe in Magic (WBIM) is committed to rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing as many equines as possible in an effort to put a stop to such animal cruelty.

Where is Magic now?

In 2010 Magic was adopted by Laura, a wonderful veterinarian assistant and trainer.  Although Magic is no longer residing at Beech Tree Stables, she forever resides in our hearts.
