Another rescue asking for help?
Yes, we are another rescue asking for help. Because you see, not one rescue is big enough to conquer such a task alone. Hellen Keller is quoted as saying, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” Saving our equines from slaughter is an enormous task that takes many hands. So please, join us in efforts to help make a difference for “that one.”

Donate: WBIM is run entirely on the generous donations from our supporters and community. Even a small amount helps to make a big difference in the lives of the animals. 100% of all donations received go to the rescue efforts and care of the animals in need.

Where Does Your Donation Go? Rescues are brought in a few different ways. Some are owner surrenders and don’t come with an initial cost, others are purchased with donations from kills pens and auctions where they would otherwise be sold to kill buyers and shipped out of the country for horsemeat. Kill pen prices are set by the per pound rate and vary depending on the size of the equine. A small emaciated equine will be priced less than a large draft horse. Below is a breakdown on approximately what it costs to rescue and care for an equine:
- Initial cost to purchase a horse otherwise intended for slaughter: $100 (plus fees) and up
- Feed for one equine: $3 per day
- Farrier: $35 every four- six weeks depending on the condition of the hooves. Some horses require trimming more frequently if their hooves are in horrible conditions.
- Dentist: $75 a float (at least once a year).
- Regular vet visits for a healthy equine: $400 per equine per year. Emergency veterinary care can vary depending on the situation and often runs into the thousands of dollars.
- Worming: $110 per year per equine
- Misc. Costs (fly spray, halters, leads, etc.): $25+ per month per equine
- Volunteer: Volunteers are always needed and there are many different things that we need help with: Mending or painting fences, mucking stalls and run-ins, grooming, ground manner and desensitizing training, exercising, riding (if you’re a student), or simply by coming out and spending some quality one on one time with one of our rescues are just a few examples of ways you can volunteer.
-
Sponsor: Consider sponsoring one of our rescues until their new family finds them. When you become a sponsor your donation will ensure that they receive the special care they deserve. Your kind sponsorship will also help WBIM Rescue with the costs of animal housing, food, supplies and medical attention while in our care.
- Our average monthly cost to maintain a single equine is $200; multiply this by five – ten equines and you can see why we need your help. Ongoing support can help us continue our work to save these wonderful beings and prepare them for brand new beginnings.

Gift Certificates: WBIM purchases grain and supplies from Tractor Supply Company and Southern States. Gift certificates to these retailers as well as gas cards are always greatly appreciated. Or if you would prefer to purchase grain or other related supplies directly, contact us and we will give you the information to our local feed store where we do our shopping.
